Just two days after the end of the session, Gov. Peter Shumlin addressed the crowd at the VAB Convention in Montpelier on May 16 at the Capitol Plaza. He touted some of the accomplishments of the year. He also praised Vermont radio and TV stations for helping to keep the public informed in times of emergency. Thanks, Governor!

NEW VAB BOARD ELECTED AT CONVENTION
There are three new faces on the six-member VAB Board of Directors. Tom Beardsley of the Radio Vermont Group returns to the board as Treasurer, replacing the retiring Dennis Snyder. Wally Caswell, GM of the Great Eastern stations in Barre is the new Secretary. And, Wendy Mays of Hall Communications, will serve as the Member-at-Large.
Eric Michaels of WDEV will serve as President. He assumed the job last year upon the resignation of Judy Leech. Alex Martin of WCAX-TV is now the Vice-President, replacing Candis Leopold, who rejoined the board last year as VP to fill out Eric’s term. And, Ken Kasz of ABC22/Fox44 will stay on the board as Past-President. Leopold will serve as Legislative Liaision, with help from Dan Dubonnet of Hall Communications. Good luck to all!

VAB SALUTES THE RETIRING DENNIS SNYDER
He has been in the radio business for more than 50 years, and has served as VAB Treasurer for more than 30 years. But now Dennis Snyder, Chief Engineer for Hall Communications, is hanging up his soldering iron.
The VAB presented him with a travel voucher to help Dennis and his wife Diana in their many upcoming journeys. Thanks again, Dennis!
Longtime VAB Treasurer Dennis Snyder thanks the convention crowd for their standing ovation.
GREAT TURNOUT FOR THE 58TH CONVENTION
More than 180 broadcasters from around Vermont converged on the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier May 16 for the VAB Convention.
P1 Selling and programming whiz Fred Jacobs presented well-attended morning and afternoon seminars. Engineers were also in the spotlight as Don Haes presented RF training in the morning and Rich Parker hosted a State EAS Plan roundtable in the afternoon.
Special guests at the Commercial of the Year luncheon included Gov. Peter Shumlin and Curtis LeGeyt, VP for Legislative Affairs for the NAB.
More than 200 entries were received for this year’s commercial contest. Click here to see all the winners.
Thank you to the management and staff at the Capitol Plaza for doing another bang-up job!
